Poland has dismantled an alleged Russian espionage network that was carrying out support operations for Moscow’s offensive against Ukraine, the Warsaw Government Defense Minister confirmed on Thursday.
“The entire network has been dismantled,” Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Baszczak told Polish public radio PR1.
“It’s a group of spies, a group that was collecting information for those who attacked Ukraine,” he said, adding only that “the threat was real.”
The Minister of the Interior is expected to pronounce on the matter at a press conference scheduled for 11:00 am (10:00 am in Lisbon).
On Wednesday, the Polish private radio station RMF FM said, citing unnamed sources, that the Internal Security Directorate (ABW) had questioned six foreign nationals who allegedly worked for Russian secret services and were “preparing to organize sabotage actions in Poland”. .
The suspects were detained after investigating images captured by cameras placed on the railway tracks, recording and transmitting traffic data, RMF reported on Wednesday.
According to the same radio station, “dozens of devices” were installed along the railways in the south-east of the country, especially near the Jasionka airport in the Rzeszow region, one of the main arms transfer points. and Western munitions to Ukraine.
Also according to the RMF, after the operation that led to the arrest of the six individuals, the police reinforced their presence in strategic infrastructures in the country.
