A US judge on Monday overturned the conviction of a man who has been held for 23 years for a murder he has always denied, a case at the heart of the global hit podcast “Serial.” Adnan Syed, 42, was sentenced to life in prison in 2000 for the murder of his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee in Baltimore on the US East Coast. In an unexpected twist, City Attorney Marilyn Mosby filed a motion last week to vacate the verdict, saying she had doubts about Adnan Syed’s guilt and called for his release. The investigation of the journalists of the “Serial” podcast had shown that Adnan Syed’s lawyer had overlooked a mobile phone test favorable to the accused, as well as the testimony of a young woman who offered him a possible alibi.
