Ukraine was the target of a Russian attack overnight using Iranian-made drones, the Ukrainian military revealed this Saturday, adding that the Lviv region, in the west of the country, was particularly targeted.
“On March 17, 2023 around 9pm, Russian invaders attacked Ukraine with Iranian-made Shahed-136/131 ‘kamikaze’ attack drones,” says a statement published on the Telegram application, citing the military’s destruction of 11 of the 16 drones.
The attacks were launched from the Sea of Azov and Russia’s Bryansk region, which borders Ukraine to the north.
Lviv regional governor Maksym Kozytski said the attack took place around 1 a.m. Saturday, adding that three drones were shot down and three more “hit non-residential buildings” in Yavoriv district, causing damage but no casualties.
In the southeastern region of Dnipro, three drones were shot down by air defenses, the head of the regional council, Mykola Lukashuk, said.
“Two others hit critical infrastructure in Novomoskovsk,” north of Dnipro, causing fire and “considerable” damage, destroying four houses and damaging six others, but no injuries, Mykola Lukashuk said.
The drones dropped on Kiev were “all” destroyed by “air defense forces” without causing casualties or damage, the city administration said on social media.
