“We are on our way to an ungovernable country.” France mobilizes again in protests

In Paris, the protests take place in the 13th arrondissement, on the Place d’Italie, where several thousand people gather, four thousand according to the Police. Since Thursday, spontaneous demonstrations have appeared, called by the union centrals. The demonstrators call on the deputies to vote in favor of the motions of no confidence against the French government, voted this Monday, March 20 in parliament.

In the last three days, protests against the French government have intensified. The French take to the streets to challenge the pension system law approved this Thursday by Emmanuel Macron’s executive, who used the constitutional weapon, article 49.3. That is why the discontent is not going to go away, say protesters, like Stéphanie.

“At first there were demonstrations to alert the government that we did not want this law, but with the use of article 49.3 we are angry and we are not going to go out on the streets. We are even more determined, ”he says.

“This week, the government has shown that it does not want to listen to the French,” argues another protester. Yves promises that the protests will continue. “It is important to multiply as much as possible all the protests throughout the country. It is important to get everything out because the discontent of the French is growing. We have been experiencing injustice for several years and this is the straw that broke the camel’s back. We can express ourselves in every way. We are on our way to an ungovernable country.”

In recent days, messages have been written on buildings and damage has been reported in the offices of deputies from the presidential party. In the building where the office of the macronista deputy and former minister Brigitte Klinkert is located, you can read “they voted against us, let’s not forget it.”

Since article 49.3 of the Constitution was used again by Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, demonstrations have multiplied throughout the country in quiet protests, but they have degenerated. Several deputies have already denounced threats and degradations. Last night in Nice, the office of the leader of the right-wing party The Republicans, Eric Ciotti, was vandalized.

Targeted attacks on the government and its majority… Majority that fears violence more and more. Since Thursday, the head of the parliamentary group of Emmanuel Macron’s party, Aurore Bergé, has been demanding “protection for deputies”.

This Sunday the reactions do not stop. “No violent act is tolerated,” defends the Minister of Economy, Bruno Le Maire. The leader of France Insubmissa defends that “if the government does not want violence, it has to accept democracy.”
