Emmanuel Macron persists and signs. On the sidelines of his speech on the rostrum of the United Nations General Assembly this Tuesday, his first speech in the UN hemicycle since he was re-elected, the President of the Republic, with BFMTV, highlighted the guard against “the partition of the world”. while “some existential questions arise for the international community”, among them “that of war and peace in Ukraine”.
avoid divisions
For him, one of the main priorities of the Western world is “to re-involve the countries that remain neutral to a certain extent” in the framework of this conflict in order to “fairly put pressure on Russia”.
“We need to build a broader coalition on the war in Ukraine and unite forces from the South, emerging powers, two big continents, Africa and South America, closer to our sight. This is what will allow us to avoid direct consequences in the long term. or hints of this war that would not be good for Europe”, he develops, always with BFMTV.
The Head of State also referred to “the Indians and the Gulf countries” in this desire for union. During his intervention at the UN, he also made a more direct appeal to the countries that do not take a position.
“Ceux que se taisent aujourd’hui servent malgré eux ou secrètement avec une certaine complicité la cause d’un nouvel imperialisme, d’un cynisme contemporain que désagrège l’ordre international sans lequel la paix n’est possible”, at- he launches .
“Collective credibility issue”
Insisting once again on this goal of not having “the West on one side and the rest of the world on the other”, Emmanuel Macron recalled that the rapprochement of world powers was a matter of the short and long term.
“It is a great diplomatic maneuver that will not happen overnight, it is in the coming weeks that we will see its success. If we let the world go bankrupt, it could bring problems in the fight for the climate”, he illustrates.
Returning to the conflict in Ukraine, the President of the Republic believes that the UN’s response is “a matter of collective credibility”. “The priority is humanitarian, women and men die for their sovereignty, he makes us do everything possible to end this war.”
A path towards peace that, according to him, should only be done under the Ukrainian conditions to which Russia will have to abide.
“We all know that only an agreement that respects international law will restore peace. The negotiation will only be possible if Ukraine wants it sovereignly and Russia accepts it in good faith. The negotiation will only be successful if the sovereignty of Ukraine is respected”, he concluded during his speech. in the rostrum of the United Nations.
