The US president warned Friday that the United States’ democratic values are under attack from extremist forces loyal to his predecessor, Donald Trump, in a prime-time speech broadcast from Philadelphia.
Of criticism explicitly directed at the “MAGA” movement, Donald Trump’s iconic campaign slogan “Make America Great Again” [Tornar a América Grande de Novo], Joe Biden criticized the “blind” fanaticism of some of the former head of state’s followers, whom he called a “threat” to the United States.
Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic.
They don’t respect our constitution.
They don’t believe in the rule of law.
And they do not recognize the will of the people.

“Much of what is happening in our country today is not normal. Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic,” said Biden, of Independence Hall, in Philadelphia, where some of the most important decisions in the country’s history were made, such as the adoption of the United States Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution.
“There is no doubt that the Republican Party today is dominated, directed and intimidated by Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans. And that is a threat to this country. (…) The MAGA Republicans have made their choice. They thrive on chaos. They don’t live in the light of the truth, but in the shadow of a lie. Together we can choose a different path.” the Democrat added.
