BBC orders removal of TikTok from employees’ work phones

The BBC has instructed its staff to remove the TikTok app from business phones, the British audiovisual conglomerate said Monday, after other Western institutions became suspicious of the Chinese social network.

In an article posted on its website, the BBC reported that its staff received an email on Sunday stating that the group claims “to not recommend the installation of TikTok on BBC company devices, to unless a professional reason is justified”.

He also cited the targeted message: “If you don’t need TikTok for professional reasons, you should delete it.”

This guide follows Chinese app bans on US or European Commission government or official devices.

TikTok, which is controlled by China’s ByteDance, is coming under increasing surveillance by Westerners, fearing that Beijing could access the information of users around the world.

In November, TikTok acknowledged that some employees in Beijing could access information about European users, and in December it even admitted that employees had used this data to spy on journalists.

But the group strongly denies that the Chinese government controls or has access to its data.
