Italian automaker Ferrari suffered a computer attack, followed by a ransom demand to recover some of its customers’ stolen contact information, the company said.
In a statement released on Monday evening, Ferrari announced, after informing authorities, that it will not accept any blackmail.
“Per its company policy, Ferrari will not accept a ransom, as it would fund criminal activities and allow the perpetrators of threats to continue their attacks,” clarified the company, which has already faced other cyber-attacks.
The company is a very attractive target for cybercriminals who try to steal information: in this case related to customer contact details, but also in general for its designs, products and patents, which are very valuable in the market.
The car manufacturer immediately informed customers about the possible exposure of their data.
“Ferrari takes the issue of secrecy very seriously and understands the importance of what happened. We have worked with experts to further strengthen our systems and we are confident that they are robust,” he explained.
