The collective suicide of a French family in Montreux, Switzerland, whose five members threw themselves from the seventh floor of a building, had been prepared and even practiced, the Public Prosecution Service revealed on Tuesday, which will file the case.
On March 24, 2022, the suicide of this family living independently in a building in Montreux, close to the casino in this city on the shores of Lake Geneva, caused a stir.
The 40-year-old father, his wife, the woman’s twin sister and the couple’s 8-year-old daughter were killed. Only the teenage son survived the fall, but he was seriously injured and in a coma.
Although the investigation quickly concluded that it was a suicide, The prosecutor’s findings show “that the mother and sister had dominant and possessive personalities, which contrasted with a shy father”.
They had “a strong hold on the children and kept them in the belief that the world was hostile to them”added the Public Prosecution Service.
The family had almost no contact with the outside world, the children studied at home and only the twin sister worked regularly.
According to the research the family “prepared, rehearsed and organized their departure for ‘a better world'”, without setting a precise date.
Neither the mother nor the girl were registered in the official records, but the older brother would be homeschooled.
A verification procedure conducted by two police officers on the morning of March 24, 2022 prompted the family to proceed with the deed.
