Following a positive assessment by Brussels, the European Union (EU) has released another €1.5 billion tranche from its macro-financial assistance package (AMF+) to Ukraine, which has been approved for 2023, it was announced on Tuesday.
According to a statement from the European Commission, EUR 1.5 billion was disbursed following the positive assessment of Kiev by Brussels, particularly in terms of progress in ensuring the transparent and efficient use of funds and the stabilization of the financial system, in addition to other criteria.
Money from the AMF+ package is intended to help Ukraine continue to pay salaries and pensions, keep essential public services running such as hospitals, schools and housing for war displaced persons, ensure macroeconomic stability and repair critical infrastructure damaged by Russian aggression such as energy, water systems and transport networks.
A first loan of €3 billion was disbursed in January and Brussels will continue to send money throughout 2023.
Since the start of the Russian invasion on 24 February 2022, the EU has already sent EUR 11.7 billion in macro-financial assistance programs to Ukraine, made available through loans at very favorable terms.
