Russia is still trying to take full control of the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut, but the attacks are losing momentum and the Ukrainian army will soon expel all Russians, a senior Ukrainian military officer said Thursday.
The commander of the Ukrainian ground forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, through a publication on the Telegram social network, made an analysis of the situation on the ground.
The Ukrainian official said Russia is still trying to take full control of the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut “despite losses in men and equipment”.
Syrskyi explained that mercenaries from the Wagner group are still the main part of Russian attacks on Bakhmut.
“They are losing strength significantly,” Syrskyi said, adding that Ukrainian troops “will take advantage of this opportunity very soon, as they already did in Kiev, Kharkiv, Balaklia and Kupiansk.” referring to areas previously besieged and occupied by Russia.
In its publication the Ukrainian commander praised the troops defending Bakhmut, which is still under Kiev, for “the superhuman resilience, bravery and bravery they demonstrate under constant fire from enemy artillery and aviation”.
This information cannot immediately be independently confirmed.
Bakhmut has been the hot spot on the Ukrainian front for months.
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW), a US think tank, believes Russia has slowed down its operations in Bakhmut.
According to ISW, Moscow forces made “marginal gains” in some areas, while Ukraine launched counterattacks in others.
