Jorge Moreira da Silva was appointed this Thursday executive director of the UN agency for infrastructure and project management (UNOPS) and assistant secretary general of the United Nations (UN).
“It is with joy and a sense of responsibility that I welcome the decision announced today by the Secretary-General of the United Nations to appoint me, following an international public competition, Executive Director of UNOPS (United Nations Agency for Infrastructure and Management of Projects) and Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations,” Moreira da Silva said in a statement.
The appointment comes after an international public competition: “It was a competitive process to which I applied individually. In the coming years, I will be totally focused on this mission of leading, on the ground, the construction and management of essential infrastructures for sustainable development “. development, security and peace, and the fight against inequalities and climate change”.
The announcement was made this Thursday by the UN Secretary General, António Guterres.
