North Korea has fired at least one more ballistic missile today

North Korea fired at least one ballistic missile into the Sea of Japan on Monday, the South Korean military announced.

“North Korea fired an unidentified ballistic missile towards the Baltic Sea,” South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said. using the Korean name for the Sea of Japan, quoted by the AFP bureau in a statement.

This launch comes just days after South Korea and the United States completed the largest joint military maneuver in five years.

Pyongyang sees these maneuvers as rehearsals for an invasion and on Friday defended that the recent exercises, dubbed “Freedom Shield,” are training for an occupation of North Korea.

The North Korean military responded by conducting military maneuvers, including testing a new “submerged nuclear strike drone”, and launching this year’s second intercontinental ballistic missile.

After a record year of weapons testing and an increase in nuclear threats from Pyongyang, Seoul and Washington have intensified security cooperation.

Last year, North Korea declared itself an “irreversible” nuclear power, and leader Kim Jong Un has recently called for an exponential increase in weapons production, including tactical nuclear weapons.
