“A crime has been committed and we only demand punishment.” Zelensky calls for creation of special court

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, addressed this Wednesday at the 77th General Assembly of the United Nations, where he calls to punish the crimes committed by Russia.

“A crime was committed against Ukraine and we only demand punishment. The crime was committed against our borders. The crime was committed against the lives of our people. The crime was committed against our dignity. The crime was committed against the community of the United Nations. We demand punishment for the attempt to steal territory from us. Punishment for the murder of thousands of people. Punishment for the torture and humiliation of men and women. Punishment for the catastrophic upheaval that Russia has caused with its illegal war, not only against the Ukrainians, but against the whole world”, says the Ukrainian leader.

The President of Ukraine says that Ukraine, Europe and the world want peace. “There is only one who wants war,” he accuses.

“We have no choice but to defend ourselves,” Zelensky spits. The Ukrainian leader again called on the United Nations to remove Russia’s veto power in the Security Council.

Volodymyr Zelensky calls for the creation of “a special court to punish Russia” for aggression against Ukraine.

“This would be a signal to all potential aggressors that they should value peace or be accountable to the world. We have prepared the steps to establish this court that will be submitted to all states. Ukraine calls on the United Nations General Assembly to support an international compensation mechanism. We count on your support. Russia must pay for this war with its assets. This is one of the worst punishments for the Russian authorities who value money above all else,” he says.

Ukraine’s president says that as the UN General Assembly convenes, Ukrainian authorities find more and more evidence of torture in Izium: “There is a man strangled with a rope. There is a woman with broken ribs. A man who was castrated before being killed.”

“We need financial support to maintain stability in Ukraine,” asks Volodymyr Zelensky, thanking the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, for having been “personally” involved in the conflict.

“Currently, oil and gas are weapons of aggression for Russia,” he considers.

Citing various Russian actions in the war, such as the bombing of Mariupol, the occupation of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and the blockade of the port of Odessa, Zelensky says that it is necessary to “finally recognize that Russia sponsors terrorism.”

“For this reason, all the items of our peace formula: punishment for aggression, protection of life, restoration of security and territorial integrity,” he concludes.
