The military police of the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais announced on Wednesday that it had rescued a woman who was buried alive in a cemetery.
The authorities “saved the life of a woman who was buried, still alive, in a vertical tomb, in the municipal cemetery in the town of Visconde do Rio Branco”, stated in a statement to the Brazilian military police.
According to the same note, after hearing cries for “help”, the army broke the brick wall and removed the 36-year-old woman, who had head injuries and several cuts on her body.
“Grave diggers at the municipal cemetery called the Marechaussee after seeing a catacomb closed with bricks and fresh cement and with traces of blood near the site,” the police explained.
According to the victim, she was at home with her husband “when her home was invaded by two hooded individuals who attacked her”.
The woman also said her husband was attacked but he managed to escape and she doesn’t remember anything from then on “until she wakes up in the tomb”.
The victim also said that he previously “would have kept weapons and drugs for two people and that this material was lost”.
According to the police, the victim is “involved in the use, drug trafficking and theft”, and the “suspects aged 20 and 22 have been identified and have not yet been found”.
