The European Union agrees to almost double renewable energy by 2030

The Council of Energy Ministers of the European Union reached an agreement on Thursday to increase the production of electricity from renewable sources.

The goal is to reach 42.5% renewable energy by 2030, practically double the current 22%.

The agreement, also a necessary measure to deal with Russia’s energy dependency, must now be voted on in the European Parliament.

In the long term, the European Union’s goal is to become a “climate neutral” economy by 2050, with zero greenhouse gas emissions.
