In an opinion piece published this Friday in Diário de Noticias, Ambassador Mikhail Kamynin points the finger at the summit for democracy, organized by the United States, “which intends, in fact, to divide all the countries of the world into two groups : democracies and non-democracies. Whites and blacks, good guys and bad guys, democrats and autocrats.” The diplomat speaks of a “simplistic, vicious logic, which does not correspond to the complexity of real life”, used by Washington to “delineate its sphere of influence”.
Kamynin says that, in this way, “the term ‘democracy’ loses its original meaning and serves only one purpose: to define those who are loyal to Washington”, taking into account their willingness to sacrifice the sovereignty and interests of the people themselves, and their opponents, essentially the States that promote foreign action independently and without any kind of subservience”.
The ambassador talks about the “millions of euros” destined for the “neo-Nazi and corrupt regime in Kiev”, to ask himself, rhetorically, “if democracy is filling the black hole of Ukraine with increasingly deadly weapons, reaching the goal desired to strategically defeat Russia”, also criticizing the “illegal sanctions” applied to Moscow, which “have nothing to do with the norms enshrined in key United Nations documents or with the principles of the free market.”
As a counterpoint, Mikhail Kamynin uses the recent visit of the Chinese president to Russia: “true democracy in international relations manifests itself in mutual respect, in the search for consensus, in non-interference in the internal affairs of countries, in the no guarantee of one’s own safety at the expense of the safety of others”.
The diplomat assures that Moscow and Beijing have shown the world “an example of firm commitment to the principles of the Charter of the United Nations” and that presidents Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping have confirmed “not only the course for the democratization of the world order , with special focus on the rejection of the dictatorship of the powerful”, since Russia and China “aspire to become an essential part in the construction of a multipolar and democratic system that denies the possibility of conflict between political-ideological blocks on the stage world “.
Finally, the Russian ambassador in Portugal quotes the former president of Mexico Benito Juárez: “respect for the rights of others is peace. Kamynin says that if this principle were followed by all of us, “it would make our common home, which is the world.” , safer, more democratic and more prosperous”.
