Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Friday his country would “never forgive” Russia for occupying Bucha, a town near the Ukrainian capital where Moscow troops were accused of massacring civilians.
“Bucha and Bucha district. 33 days of occupation. More than 1,400 dead, including 37 children. More than 175 people were found in mass graves and torture chambers. 9,000 Russian war crimes,” Zelensky began on social media on the day that marks the one-year anniversary of Bucha’s liberation by Kievan troops.
There are “365 days” of a Ukrainian city being free again, he underlined. “A symbol of the atrocities committed by the army of the occupying country. We will never forgive it. We will punish all perpetrators,” the Ukrainian president promised in the message published on social networks, marking the date with a . video shared.

Russian troops are accused of massacring civilians in Bucha during more than a month of occupation by Moscow troops. After the city was liberated, footage was revealed of the destruction of civilian bodies, some with hands tied behind their backs, on various roads and mass graves.
According to Ukrainian estimates, about 400 civilian bodies were found in Bucha, near the Ukrainian capital Kiev, and more than 1,000 across the region, many in mass graves.
