Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said on Friday that Western aid to Kiev increases the likelihood of a nuclear war breaking out in Ukraine.
“As a result of the efforts of the United States and the [países] satellites, a full-scale war has been unleashed (in Ukraine), which means that “a third world war with nuclear fires is looming on the horizon,” Lukashenko said during a televised address.
In this sense, the Belarusian head of state, an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, is calling for a “truce” in Ukraine and negotiations “without preconditions” between Moscow and Kiev. “We must stop now, before the climb begins”he claimed.
“I will take the risk of proposing an end to hostilities…a ceasefire agreement.” appeal filed. “All territorial, reconstruction, security and other issues can and should be resolved at the negotiating table, without preconditions,” he defended.
However, Russia has already stated that it is not considering a ceasefire in the conflict, which has been going on since February 24, 2022.
“Nothing changes in the context of Ukraine,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. “The special military operation continues as this is the only way to achieve Russia’s objectives,” he stressed.
Emphasizing that “Russia’s military-industrial complex is running at full throttle” and that Ukraine is “flooded with Western weapons”, Lukashenko expressed concern about an “escalation” that would cause many deaths.
Belarus does not participate directly in the conflict in Ukraine, but has ceded its territory to the Russian army for the offensive in the Ukrainian capital last year and for carrying out attacks, the Kiev government said.
