Several people were injured in two train derailments within minutes of each other in northwestern Switzerland, Bern police said.
The first train derailed between the towns of Luscherz and Biena at around 4:30 p.m. local time, and the other, about 20 minutes later, near Büren zum Hof, some 40 kilometers away, the statement said.
In both cases, there were “several injuries,” police spokeswoman Flurina Schenk said, adding that police, medical aid and firefighters were still at the scene of the accidents overnight.
No explanation has yet been given for the two events.
According to public transport company RBS, the second derailment may have been caused by hurricane-force winds that swept across the country on Friday.
In the first, “the rear of the convoy turned to the right”, the police spokeswoman described.
