Mega security operation in New York awaits Donald Trump

New York is preparing for an unprecedented event in the country’s history: former US President Donald Trump is expected to turn himself in to the authorities, who have mounted a mega-security operation.

Donald Trump, formally accused in a case involving the payment of a bribe to pornographic actress Stormy Daniels to guarantee her silence in an extramarital case, will have to fly to New York today, where he is expected to turn himself in to the authorities in the criminal court of Manhattan , On tuesday.

This is the first indictment of a former president in the history of the United States of America (USA) – who is also a candidate for the White House in 2024 – and has created significant security challenges, with authorities preparing for possible demonstrations.

The charges that the former Republican president will face are not yet known, but some of his most loyal allies have come to his defense, such as Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, who announced that she will be in New York on Tuesday to protest. She against this accusation, which she described as a “witch hunt”, and urged her more than 600,000 followers on the social network Twitter to do the same.

In recent weeks, in anticipation of his impeachment, Donald Trump has been urging his supporters to protest, but there have been few public demonstrations of support across the country.

Questions then arose about whether Trump, the leading Republican candidate in the 2024 presidential race who retains a devoted following, still has the same mobilizing power he had in the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on Capitol Hill.

On Friday, the 35,000 members of the New York Police Department (NYPD, for its acronym in English) were called to work and Secret Service agents were in Manhattan criminal court to determine how the former president will enter and exit the building of safe way.

Metal barriers were placed in front of Trump Tower, a Manhattan skyscraper that has drawn a lot of attention in recent days.

“There is no manual on how to act in case of accusation of a former president. This is going to be something completely new,” a former FBI agent told ABC News.

The former president himself warned on social networks of the possibility of “death and destruction” in case of being accused.

The safety of the Manhattan district attorney, Alvin Bragg, responsible for leading this investigation against Trump, has also been a priority for the New York authorities, since he has received at least one death threat.

At the moment, one of the few protests planned for Tuesday is that of the ‘New York Young Republican Club’, which will join the efforts of Marjorie Taylor Greene.

“Alvin Bragg’s open politicization… threatens all Americans. The unprecedented multi-year witch hunt against President Donald Trump brings us one step closer to an America beyond recognition. Join us and Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene on Tuesday to peacefully protest the political persecution, arrest and impeachment of (…) Trump. Make your voice heard. Fight for America. Fight for Trump,” the Republican group called on social media.

The ‘New York Young Republican Club’ had already called another protest in support of Trump, on March 20, in front of the Manhattan criminal court, but on the occasion only about 20 supporters attended.

In contrast to the lack of support for Trump, dozens of news teams have gathered in recent weeks in front of the metal bars installed by the New York Police around the field, showing the great interest – national and international – that has awakened this case.
