A “serial donor” in the Netherlands and internationally. An association that defends the rights of Dutch children against donations declared filing a complaint, on March 26, against a man suspected of having given birth, because of his donations, to more than 550 children, in at least 13 clinics.
“This behavior is dangerous to the mental well-being and health of the donor’s children. By furthering their reproductive drive, the donor is acting illegally,” said attorney Mark de Hek, quoted in the Donorkind Foundation press release.
Banned in 2017
However, the 41-year-old Dutchman had been excluded from sperm donation in 2017 by the Dutch Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology (NVOG). At that time, he had already allowed 102 babies to be delivered, far exceeding the limit of 25 children per donor “to avoid consanguinity, incest and psychological problems for the children of donors.”
But since then, he kept offering his services online or traveling abroad.
In its complaint, the foundation requests the definitive cessation of the donations of this child “under pain of sanctions” and the destruction of the semen samples stored in various clinics. However, the Dutch association cannot forbid mothers who have at least one child from giving donations “so that they can have as many genetically related children as possible.”
