An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale shook the area of the island of Sumatra in western Indonesia on Monday.
According to data from the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake originated in the sea, 84 kilometers deep, at a point southwest of the city of Padangsidempuan, in North Sumatra.
The country’s authorities did not issue any tsunami warnings.
