Brazilian artist Caetano Veloso called on Lula da Silva to vote in the presidential election on October 2, as the candidate is battling for a first-round victory.
In a promotional video for former Brazilian President Caetano Veloso’s campaign, calling for a useful vote, he admits that he loves Ciro Gomes – the center-left presidential candidate in the 2018 elections and the elections set to take place in 12 days – but that he will vote for Lula.
“Honestly, I think that while we love Ciro and respect what he plans and promises, I think it is…” he said, making an L with his hand, a symbol that has become common among Lula da Silva supporters.
In the latest poll by the Datafolha Institute, Lula da Silva maintains the lead with 45% of the voting intentions for the presidential election in Brazil, against 33% for the current president, Jair Bolsonaro.
Ciro Gomes, ex-Ceará State Governor, ex-Finance Minister and ex-Minister of National Integration, appears with 8% of the voting intentions and Lula’s campaign has sought to ‘steal’ part of this electorate to soon win against the first (more than 50% of the required votes).
Ciro Gomes, who has tried to combat the useful mood by conducting several promotional campaigns, has already commented on this video by Caetano Veloso.
“My brother, my sister, who wins or not, it’s you who decides. The system forces people to choose between the bad and the worst, they even want to take your freedom to choose who they vote for. Give me a chance and then I’ll write history, I’ll really change our Brazil!”wrote Ciro Gomes.
On Monday morning, Lula’s campaign staged another “charm operation” over the useful vote, with six former Brazilian presidential candidates calling for the vote for the former head of state.
The ecologist Marina Silva, the socialists Luciana Genro and Guilherme Boulos, Cristovam Buarque and João Vicente Goulart and the conservative Henrique Meireles attended a rally in which they expressed their support for Lula da Silva in the first round.
Two other former presidential candidates who clearly identified with Lula da Silva since the start of the current election process also took part: his vice presidential candidate, the conservative Geraldo Alckmin, and the São Paulo governor’s candidate, Fernando Haddad, of the Workers’ Party (PT).
The former president thanked the gesture and believed the six could help him get the support he lacks to win the election.
The presidential elections in Brazil have the first round scheduled for October 2 and the second, if necessary, on the 30th.
Ten candidates are currently running for the Brazilian presidential election: Jair Bolsonaro, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Ciro Gomes, Simone Tebet, Luís Felipe D’Ávila, Soraya Tronicke, Eymael, Leonardo Pericles, Sofia Manzano and Vera Lúcia.
