Four children died this Wednesday in an attack on a nursery in Blumenau, Brazil, according to information from the Military Police and firefighters, quoted by the Brazilian newspaper Folha de São Paulo.
In addition to the fatalities, four other children were injured, one of them seriously, and have already been transferred to hospitals in the region. According to the Military Police, the perpetrator of the attack is 25 years old and has already turned himself in to the authorities.
The governor of Santa Catarina, Jorginho Mello, has already reacted on Twitter and expressed his solidarity with the families of the victims.
“The murderer is already in prison. He left here my total solidarity. May God comfort the hearts of all the families in this moment of deep pain”, can be read on Twitter by Jorginho Mello.
The first lady of Brazil, Janja Lula da Silva, who said she was following the attack, was also dismayed.
“All my solidarity and affection at this difficult time for the families and the entire population of the city,” he wrote.
The local mayor, Mário Hildebrandt, guaranteed that the next actions are being defined. For now, the priority is to provide support to the families of the victims.
“Giving the best comfort and support with teams of psychologists who have been trained for situations like these. We are going to organize ourselves to be able to provide the best support. I ask parents to look for their children in our educational units with peace of mind. mind a private establishment, but the children are from the municipality and, therefore, we are all together to find the best service”, asked Mário Hildebrandt.
Authorities are investigating the case to obtain more information about the attack.
