The spokesman for the Russian presidency assured on Friday that Moscow has no doubts about the “direct or indirect participation” of the US and UN in the war in Ukraine after the Pentagon confirmed it is investigating a leak of classified documents.
“This level of participation is gradually increasing,” Dimitri Peskov said in a statement to CNN, adding that the Kremlin continues to “pay attention” to the case of secret documents about the war in Ukraine published on various social networks.
Ukrainian presidency spokesman Mykhailo Podolyak blamed Russia for leaking documents with the aim of “influencing Ukraine’s plans for a counter-offensive” on the battlefront.
“That’s a ‘bluff’: dust for the eyes,” the Ukrainian spokesman told Telegram.
As previously reported by The New York Times, some information in the documents was changed before they were published, such as US estimates of the number of Ukrainians killed in the conflict, as well as Russian casualties.
According to military analysts consulted by The New York Times, these changes could indicate an attempt by Moscow to spread disinformation to boost Russian morale in the conflict.
The newspaper also detailed that the documents photographed, which would be at least six, are from five weeks ago, so the information would be out of date and, while they do not reveal the strategy for a possible Ukrainian counter-offensive, they mention that Kiev is gathering combat brigades to that end.
