Several hundred people, including the leader of the Wagner paramilitary group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, gathered in Moscow this Saturday for the funeral of military blogger Vladlen Tatarsky, who was killed in a bomb attack in St Petersburg last Sunday.
Hundreds of people went to the Troyekurovskoye cemetery, in the west of the capital, to pay their respects to Vladlen Tatarsky – whose real name was Maxime Fomin – before he was buried, according to AFP news agency journalists on the scene.
A large police force was deployed to control the people in the cemetery. Many wore clothes with the letters Z or V, which are a sign of support for the Russian offensive in Ukraine.
This murder is “an attempt to kill the truth (…) which is trying to pierce the layer of rot that covers Russian society,” Anna Ivannikova, a 33-year-old manager from Moscow, told AFP.
According to Anna Ivannikova, Russian society is “still asleep”, except in the Russian cities closest to Ukraine, where fighting has been going on for more than a year.
On April 2, Vladlen Tatarsky, known for his support for the Russian offensive in Ukraine – which began on February 24, 2022 and is still going on more than a year later – was killed in a bomb attack at a cafe in the city. of Saint Petersburg, in northwestern Russia.
Moscow has accused Kiev and “agents” of prison opponent Alexei Navalny of being involved in the murder.
Russian authorities have detained and charged a 26-year-old woman, Daria Tryopova, with “terrorism”, who allegedly offered the “blogger” a booby-trapped bust, which exploded during the event, killing him and injuring about 30 people.
However, Daria Tryopova has not yet claimed to have voluntarily participated in the attack, nor has she named any possible sponsors.
Pro-Ukrainian Russian activists also claimed, without concrete evidence, that it was the action of a resistance group operating in Russia.
