Two police officers die in US shooting

Two Wisconsin police officers were killed in a shootout on Saturday during a traffic operation, local law enforcement officials said.

The Wisconsin Justice Department said in a statement Saturday evening that it was investigating the shooting that took place in the town of Cameron, in Barron County, Wisconsin.

A police officer in the city of Chetek stopped a car around 3:38 p.m. local time on Saturday (9:38 p.m. on Saturday in Lisbon), and at one point there was a shootout with the driver of the vehicle, he said against the Ministry of Justice.

Chetek’s agent and another Cameron agent were pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect in the shooting was taken to the hospital and later died there, according to the judiciary.

The names of the officers and the suspect have not been released.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of two officers today. My thoughts are with their families and the Chetek and Cameron Police Department at this incredibly difficult time,” Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul said in a post on Twitter.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Criminal Investigation Division is conducting the investigation and will file a report with the Barron County District Attorney when the investigation is complete, the statement said.
