Russian and Ukrainian authorities on Monday confirmed a new prisoner exchange, with both sides recovering about 100 soldiers captured by enemy forces.
This is reported by the Russian Ministry of Defense. about 106 soldiers who were in “danger of death” under Ukrainian captivity will return to the territory of the Russian Federation on planes chartered by the Kremlin.
“All freedmen will receive necessary medical and psychological assistance,” the Russian military authorities assured, quoted by the TASS news agency.
The head of the Ukrainian presidential office, Andrii Yermak, also confirmed the operation on the Telegram social network, where he clarified that the freedmen were soldiers who mainly fought in Mariupol.
“Some people were seriously injured and sick. We will do what is necessary so that each of them gets all the help they need,” Yermak assured.
The prisoner exchange is one of the few agreements between Russia and Ukraine since the start of the war in late February 2022.
Moscow and Kiev have already conducted several prisoner exchanges, although these have not been without controversy, as both sides accuse each other of failing to comply with established rules.
