Kiev urges allies to step up arms supplies

The adviser to the Ukrainian presidency, Mykhailo Podolyak, on Tuesday called on allied countries to forget the information revealed in classified documents from the United States and to step up the supply of weapons to the Ukrainian armed forces.

“We need less thinking about filtering and more long-range weapons to end the war properly and make the Russian Federation face reality,” Podolyak said in a post on the social network Twitter.

The words of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s adviser are seen as a criticism of the allied countries of Ukraine, which, in the perspective of Mykhailo Podolyak, have chosen in recent days to focus their attention on the new information from documents of the US secret services (released in the Internet) at the expense of trying to contribute to hastening the end of the conflict, in view of a decisive Ukrainian advantage on the ground.

“If we had time, we could see the Russian Federation crumbling and its ‘elites’ devouring each other. But we won’t, because our people are dying,” Podolyak said.

On Monday, the Pentagon (US Department of Defense) ruled that the leaking of classified US documents, particularly relating to Ukraine, most of which appear authentic, constitutes a “very serious” security risk.

The fact that these documents are circulating on the internet poses “a very serious risk to national security and could potentially lead to disinformation,” Chris Meagher, a Pentagon spokesman, told the media at the time.

The documents, released last week by media outlets such as The New York Times, include assessments and reports from US intelligence agencies regarding the war in Ukraine, as well as with US allies.

“A cross-agency collaboration has been initiated to assess the impact [que a fuga] of these documents could affect the security of the country and our allies and partners,” said another Pentagon spokeswoman, Sabrina Singh.

The documents, published on social networks, could be valuable to Moscow, as they reveal the extent to which US secret services have penetrated parts of the Russian military apparatus, according to US media.

The US Justice Department, which opened an investigation on Saturday, is trying to identify the source of the leak and is investigating the validity of the released documents.

The Russian military offensive on Ukrainian territory, launched on February 24 last year, plunged Europe into what is considered the most serious security crisis since World War II (1939-1945).

The Russian invasion – justified by the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, with the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for Russia’s security – was condemned by the international community at large, which responded by sending weapons to Ukraine and Russia to impose political and economic sanctions.
