Russian opponent Alexei Navalny, who has been arrested for two years, is sick and without medical attention, on Tuesday denounced his lawyer, Vadim Kobzev, pointing to a “very strange” situation.
On the social network Twitter, Kobzev wrote, referring to Navalny: “On the night from Friday to Saturday, an ambulance was called to his cell because of a stomach ailment, which was getting worse.”
He added that Navalny, aged 46, is suffering from “an unknown disease for which no one is treating him” and that he has “lost eight kilograms in the last 15 days, according to his medical record”.
He also revealed that the packets of medicine that Navalny’s mother sends to her son are “returned to him” so he cannot receive them.
Kobzev also revealed that his client is suffering from “crises” and said he “does not rule out” that authorities are trying to make the opponent’s health “deteriorate not abruptly, but gradually” and demanded “toxicological and radiological tests be carried out” .
At the beginning of the year, Navalny had stated that he had flu-like symptoms and had no satisfactory access to medical care. His supporters denounced an attempt by the Kremlin to “kill” him little by little.
Navalny, a favorite enemy of Vladimir Putin and opponent of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, was arrested in January 2021 upon returning from abroad to the Russian Federation after suffering severe poisoning, which he attributed to the Kremlin.
In March of the same year, he was sentenced to nine years in prison under a “strict” regime, on charges of “fraud” which he claims to be fictitious.
