Donald Trump Says He Will Run For US President Even If Convicted

Former United States President (2017-2021) Donald Trump said Tuesday that he will not withdraw from the presidential candidacy even if he is convicted of all 34 counts of falsifying business records.

The statements were made in an interview with the Fox News television network, the first after accusations related to payments made to pornographic actress Stormy Daniels to buy her silence about a sexual relationship between them.

The 76-year-old Republican took the opportunity to criticize the president, Joe Biden, 80, who has indicated his intention to run for re-election in 2024.

“I do not think I can [concorrer ao cargo]”, Trump said about Biden, adding that “it’s not about age, (…) there’s just something wrong.” [com ele]”.

Regarding the war in Ukraine, Trump said that it is something that would not have happened if he was still in the White House and even claimed that he spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin about it while he was still in the White House.

“I could see that he loves Ukraine, he considers it part of Russia,” he said, criticizing the current US policy towards the war, especially the military support given to the Ukrainian government.

The United States has provided more than 70 billion dollars (64 billion euros) in aid to Ukraine since the war began, including humanitarian, military and financial support, according to data from the Kiel Institute for the World Economy.
