Kiev says classified documents contain false information designed to divide allies

Ukraine’s defense minister said on Wednesday that alleged classified US documents released in recent days contain false and outdated information and that a “special psychological operation” is at stake to divide Kiev’s allies.

Oleksii Reznikov acknowledged “not to satisfy anyone” with a leak of this type of information, but added that it was “also necessary to analyze with a magnifying glass” the alleged documents that had been released, assuring that they “contain a lot of data that not true” and others that “do not correspond to reality, which are no longer current”.

“We can say that it is a mixture of truth and falsehood. I suppose it was an action carried out on purpose, what I call a special psychological operation. It is clear that the beneficiary of this operation is Russia and its allies and sympathizers.” this operation is designed to reduce confidence among the allies in relation to the United States”said Oleksii Reznikov at a press conference in Madrid, according to the translation into Spanish of his statements by an interpreter.

The Ukrainian minister said he is confident that the United States will do “everything possible to nullify the scope” of this information leak, trace its origin and prevent “situations like this from happening again in the future.” .

Despite all these leaks, Kyiv has “full confidence” in US allies, said Oleksii Reznikov, underlining that he maintains a “direct relationship” with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.

As for the content of the documents, the minister denied that there are any NATO soldiers on Ukrainian soil and denied the alleged pessimism of the United States regarding a possible wartime counter-offensive by Ukraine.

For Oleksii Reznikov, this alleged pessimism is “very easy to refute”, because it is enough to listen to the public statements of recent days by LLoyd Austin and State Secretary Anthony Blinken, in which they “expressed satisfaction with the preparation of the Ukrainian army today “.

“I am absolutely sure that Ukraine will win the war”he added.

The Ukrainian defense minister spoke alongside his Spanish counterpart, Margarita Robles, who also said that it is “completely untrue that there is a NATO military presence in Ukraine” and that “there is an interest in dividing the allies”.

Margarida Robles assured that “both within the reach of NATO and the European Union, the unity of the Allies in supporting Ukraine is total and absolute and that Russia will not be able to break that unity under any circumstances”.

Russia attacked Ukraine militarily on February 24, 2022, plunging Europe into what is considered the most serious security crisis since World War II (1939-1945).
