Electronic bracelet. New coercive measure for Eva Kaili

Former European Parliament Vice-President Eva Kaili leaves the preventive detention regime she has been subject to since December this afternoon. The Greek MEP thus sees the coercive measure lifted, but remains under electronic supervision with conditional freedom, within the scope of “Qatargate”.

After four months in preventive detention, the Vice-President of the European Parliament will be tracked by the authorities via an electronic bracelet,

The MEP was arrested in December following a scandal over allegations of electoral fraud and political positions favoring Qatar in the European Parliament.

In a brief statement to the Journal Le Soir, that “confirms the information”, Eva Kaili’s lawyer, Flemish Belgian Sven Mary, does not comment, saying only that it is “a decision of inexorable logic”.

Sven Mary is a highly regarded lawyer in Belgium who became best known internationally as the first advocate of Salah Adeslam. But he already had cases in his portfolio like Marc Dutroux, the Belgian who has been in solitary confinement since 1996 – after recidivism in the crime of rape and murder of minors.

The lawyer is known in Belgian justice as the lawyer of the “bad guys”.

The decision to place Eva Kaili under electronic surveillance comes a day after investigating judge Michel Claise paroled MEP Marc Tarabela.

The main suspect António Panzeri left prison about a week ago and Eva Kaili’s partner, Francesco Georgi, left prison almost two months ago.

The main suspects in the case of cash bonuses to make invalid decisions in the European Parliament in favor of Qatar will be checked with an electronic bracelet.
