Mobilization in Russia: Zelensky assures that “protest is always safer than war”

The Ukrainian president encourages the Russians to demonstrate instead of going to the Ukrainian front, where the troops “will have to shoot”.

The Russians “do not understand what can happen to them if they come to Ukraine.” Almost seven months after the start of the war, the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, encouraged the Russians on Friday to demonstrate instead of going to the Ukrainian front, as requested by the Kremlin, which called for the mobilization of 300,000 reservists, in an interview granted to various media, including West of France.

If Volodymyr Zelensky estimated that his Russian counterpart “will manage to send this number of men” to the front, he assured the Russians that “they are making a mistake.”

“We will have to shoot these people”

“They are afraid that they will be imprisoned for demonstrating, but they do not understand what will happen to them if they reach Ukraine. They will have to shoot at the Ukrainians and we will have to shoot at these people, ”he laments.

Next, the president encouraged the Russians to take to the streets, assuring that “protesting is always safer than war, and it is necessary, that is how a democracy works.” In any case, “Vladimir Putin will not be able to stop everyone,” he added.

“Nobody knows what Putin will do tomorrow”

If Vladimir Putin again threatened to use nuclear weapons in the Ukraine conflict on Wednesday, Volodymyr Zelensky estimated that “the world will not allow it.” But “nobody knows what Putin is going to do tomorrow. (…) For him, telling the truth or lying is almost the same,” he added, however.

“Yesterday Putin said that he wanted a diplomatic solution, today he begins the mobilization, tomorrow he will say that he wants a dialogue.”

For him, “it is not an agreement that works with Russia but the ability to respond with force. We must show strength, isolate Russia.”

“50 soldiers” killed per day

That is why he asks Western countries to send more weapons to Ukraine. “I would like France and all the other countries to do even more.” He also said he was “shocked” by Israel’s lack of help and denounced China’s “ambiguous” position, which he also asked for cooperation.

On the manpower side, Ukraine loses “50 soldiers a day,” according to figures provided by the Ukrainian president, who refuses to provide the number of wounded and dead since the start of the war.

The Ukrainian president finally expressed his concern about the bombardments that regularly affect the surroundings of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant. There is a “risk of nuclear disaster” at this plant that has been occupied by the Russians for many weeks, he warned.
