Ukraine says of 436 bodies exhumed in Izyum, 30 had signs of torture

A Ukrainian official in the eastern region of Kharkov said on Friday that 436 bodies had been exhumed from a mass cemetery near the eastern city of Izyum, which was recaptured by the Ukrainian army.

“Exhumation of the bodies from the mass grave in Izyum is being completed. A total of 436 bodies have been exhumed. Most have signs of violent death and 30 have signs of torture. Tied up, with broken limbs and gunshot wounds”Kharkiv regional governor Oleg Synegubov said on social media.

Ukraine recaptured Izyum and other eastern cities this month, paralyzing the Kremlin’s supply routes and providing new evidence of Russian atrocities with the discovery of hundreds of graves – some containing multiple bodies.

“Several men had their genitals amputated. All this is evidence of the terrible torture to which the invaders subjected the inhabitants of Izyum”added Synegubov.

The Kremlin denied that its forces were responsible for large-scale deaths in eastern Ukraine and accused Kiev of fabricating its finds from mass graves in recaptured territory.
