The president of Brazil condemned this Tuesday the “violation of the territorial integrity of Ukraine” and once again defended a “negotiated political solution.”
“While my government condemns the violation of the territorial integrity of Ukraine, we defend a negotiated political solution. I spoke of our concern for the effects of the war, which go beyond the European continent”, said Lula da Silva after a meeting with her counterpart. Romanian, Klaus Iohannis.
The Brazilian leader stressed that Romania has a 600-kilometer border with Ukraine, reiterating to the Romanian president his “concern about the global consequences of the conflict in terms of food and energy security, especially in the poorest regions of the planet.”
These statements come after Lula da Silva received the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergey Lavrov, and defended that Ukraine was as responsible as Russia for the conflict, accusing the United States and the European Union of prolonging the war.
White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said the Brazilian position is “deeply problematic” and accused Brazil of “repeating Russian propaganda without looking at the facts.”
