Several people were injured on Tuesday after a knife attack at a gym in the western German city of Duisburg, police sources said.
The incident took place in the historic center of Duisburg and German authorities urged residents to avoid that area.
“According to current information, a person injured others with an object” in a gym, Duisburg police said. through the social network Twitter.
Police later revealed that a sharp object had been used in the attack and at least four people were seriously injured.
Authorities have indicated that the four injured are German citizens, three of whom are in mortal danger.

Police reported that they received the first emergency calls around 5:40 p.m. (4:40 p.m. in Lisbon).
This police force also reported that a large number of officers are on site.

It is not yet clear how many people were injured in this attack, with the attacker still on the run, according to the Dutch Data Protection Authority.
Several victims were taken to a hospital while authorities searched the gym and questioned witnesses to the attack, the German news agency said.
According to the German newspaper “Bild”, quoted by the Efe agency, the incident took place in the locker room of the gym and it is not known how many people were actively involved in the attack.

The chairman of the German parliament, Bärbel Bas, who is from Duisburg, was shocked by the attack.
