Man arrested for alleged “false information” about Ukraine

A Ukrainian man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly helping Russia create false information about Ukraine through the pro-Russian regional service, Kiev’s security service announced.

According to a statement from the security services, the arrested man allegedly provided “distorted and fabricated” information to the pro-Russian regional news agency Bel.ru, which distributed it.

Same person publicly supported the “acts of the Russian occupiers” on their social networks, according to security services.

According to the same statement, the man has denied several crimes attributed to the Russian army, namely the attacks on civilians in Bucha, in connection with which he said that “the Russian army does not shoot at civilians”, finding the hundreds of corpses of civilians ” the sadistic feat of the Ukrainian army”.

The man was further charged with “justifying Russian aggression in Ukraine” and “glorifying its participants”, and faced a prison sentence of up to five years.

In September 2022, the company responsible for the social networks Facebook and Instagram, Meta, announced that it had dismantled two disinformation networks, including a Russian one, used to spread false information about the war in Ukraine.
