Eurozone trade in goods registers surplus in February after almost a year and a half of deficit

The euro zone registered in February, for the first time since September 2021, a surplus in the foreign trade balance of 4.6 billion euros, compared to a similar deficit of 9.4 billion euros, Eurostat reports.

In February, exports of goods from the euro zone to the rest of the world increased by 7.6%, to 232.7 billion euros, and imports by 1.1%, to 228.1 billion euros, compared to the same month in 2022. .

According to data from the statistics service of the European Union (EU), the 27 Member States as a whole also registered a surplus of 4.8 billion euros in the trade balance of goods with the rest of the world, the first since July 2021, in compared to the deficit of 16.5 billion euros in February 2022.

Exports of EU goods outside the bloc grew by 8.0%, to 207.7 billion euros and imports, for their part, fell by 2.8%, to a value of 202.9 billion euros.

In January and February, the deficit balance was reduced to 27,000 million euros in the euro zone and 31,000 million euros in the EU compared to, respectively, 39,700 million euros and 55,100 million euros of counterpart.
