The Ukrainian community says Brazil will send a representative to Ukraine to assess the situation

The president of the Ukrainian community in Portugal said on Friday he had been informed by Brazil’s ambassador to Lisbon and Brazil’s minister Márcio Macêdo that a high representative of the Brazilian government would visit Ukraine “soon”.

“The minister [da Secretaria Geral da Presidência brasileira, Márcio Macêdo] said that a high representative of Brazil (…) will soon visit Ukraine where he will meet high representatives to review the situation in Ukraine”Lusa told the president of the community, Pavlo Sadoka, after being received at the embassy to deliver an open letter motivated by the Brazilian president’s statements about the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

“We believe that this visit to Ukraine can help understand what the Russians are doing in Ukraine (..) and explain to the President of Brazil that peace can only be achieved if Russian troops leave Ukraine”advanced.

Pavlo Sadoka stressed that the delegation received at the embassy this Friday was “positively surprised by the invitation” for a High Representative of Brazil to travel to Ukraine, as “this means that President Lula wants to have a dialogue, which is very well accept”.

The gathering in front of the embassy brought together about fifty Ukrainians living in Portugal, who raised national flags and posters with pictures of war victims in the country, with statements such as “thank you Portugal” or “Russia is a terrorist country”, accompanied by Ukrainian songs .

The delegation received at the embassy spent almost an hour in the meeting and, according to the president of the community, succeeded in achieving the goal of “showing the point of view” of the Ukrainians, regarding Lula’s statements , and to reinforce that the war can end only after Russian troops have left Ukrainian territory.

“We don’t believe that Putin can end this war”said Pavlo Sadoka, specifying that both the ambassador and the minister have explained that the Brazilian president is “looking for a formula for peace, to end this war”, and the Ukrainian community says it is grateful.

“The Ukrainian people have chosen their democratic destiny and we will continue to fight for it”he concluded.
