The US once again considers Afghanistan a jihadist coordination center

The US Department of Defense considers that Afghanistan has once again become an international terrorist coordination center, in two years of Taliban power, unable to stop the resurgence of the Islamic State group, it was announced this Saturday.

A new series of secret Pentagon (Department of Defense) documents released indicates that the ‘jihadist’ group is planning, with the participation of its Afghan branch, attacks against Europe and Asia and wants to do the same in the United States.

For example, leaders of the Islamic State – Khorasan Province (or ISIS-K) planned attacks on embassies, churches, shopping malls and even witnessed a bombing during the World Cup in Qatar late last year, the agency reported. Spanish Europa Press.

Last December, Pentagon officials were aware of nine of these possible operations, which increased to 15 in February, according to information collected by the US newspaper The Washington Post.

From Afghanistan, “Islamic State is developing a profitable model for external operations that relies on a combination of international resources, recruiting operatives in target countries, and establishing facilitation networks,” according to the Pentagon’s assessment.

The Taliban regime considers the Islamic State a terrorist organization and since it came to power in August 2021 it has launched some operations against the group’s hideouts, without being able, however, to prevent it from carrying out attacks.
