Musk activates the Starlink satellite network to allow Internet access in Iran

South African billionaire Elon Musk posted a message on Twitter on Thursday in which it appears that he is activating his Starlink satellite network to allow internet access in Iran.

“Enabling Starlink…” was the brief message launched by the CEO of Tesla, who responded to another message, also on the social network Twitter, published by the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, in which he reported that The White House had issued an authorization for Internet companies to make their services available in Iran.

The decision followed internet shutdowns ordered by Tehran leaders to seek to shorten protests against the crackdown on women and mandatory veiling.

“With this measure, we will help the Iranian people not to be isolated. It is a step towards meaningful support for the Iranians, who are demanding that their fundamental rights be respected,” Blinken wrote.

The protests in Iran began on Friday of last week, after the death of Masha Amini, 22, was known, after being arrested by the Moral Police for wearing the veil placed in a way that the agents considered incorrect.

The IRIB state television reported the death of 26 people due to clashes with police forces.

The Iranian government has severely restricted Internet access, with mobile networks cut from 9:00 pm until morning in recent days.

On Thursday, the US imposed sanctions on the Moral Police, for the death of the young woman, and seven leaders of the security sector, for the repression of the demonstrations.
