Ukraine’s military intelligence agency said on Monday that Russia was producing and stockpiling missiles to respond to a Ukrainian counter-offensive and thwart Kiev’s attempts to regain Russian-held territory.
“[A Rússia] is stockpiling missiles to disrupt our offensive operation,” said Kyrylo Budanov.
The Ukrainian official said in an interview with local media RBK that the stockpiling of missiles explains the end of massive attacks with this type of weapon against Ukrainian cities – which began last autumn with the aim of destroying the country’s electrical system .
In addition to stockpiling, Budanov noted that “Russia is also producing new missiles”.
“Most of these missiles will be used in active hostilities”emphasized the head of the Ukrainian military intelligence services.
From the fall of 2022 and part of last winter, Russia attacked power plants in Kiev and other major Ukrainian cities with Iranian “kamikaze drones” and even launched wave strikes with up to 120 missiles.
Russia has only deployed ‘drones’ in recent months.
Ukraine is preparing a counter-offensive in the spring or summer of this year with the aim of regaining part of its Russian-held territories.
Budanov himself acknowledged in the interview with RBK that the results of this campaign will be decisive for the future of Ukraine.
