At least one migrant died and another 20 were reported missing after a boat capsized off the coast of Italy, the international press reported Monday.
According to the Europa Press news agency, a fishing boat rescued 34 survivors and located a body after the sinking of a vessel barely seven meters long.
These migrants left the coast of Tunis, Tunisia, on Saturday night, according to the first information released by the Italian newspaper La Repubblica.
The migrants were later transferred to an Italian Coast Guard patrol boat.
Survivors, who include six minors, reported that around 20 people on the boat were missing. The Italian authorities activated the search and rescue device.
On Sunday, on the island of Lampedusa alone, around 640 migrants arrived aboard 17 different boats.
The Government of Italy has estimated that more than 35,000 people have arrived since January 1, according to data updated on April 21 by the Italian Ministry of the Interior.
The International Organization for Migration has already recorded 537 deaths in the central Mediterranean this year, reaching more than 20,700 deaths since 2014.
