Lithuanian minister denies asylum to Russians and leaves five alternatives

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis on Saturday denied the armpit to Russian citizens who are conscientious objectors and who ignore Russian President Vladimir Putin’s call to stay in the country and wage war in Ukraine. Furthermore, he left five alternatives for Russian men who want to flee to Europe.

“Lithuania will not grant aid to those who simply shirk their responsibilities. The Russians must stay and fight. Fight Putin,” he wrote on Twitter.

Later, Landsbergis left a list of five alternatives “to Russian men who want to flee to Europe:” “protest, disobey, desert, surrender, mutiny,” he enumerated.

The possibility of the EU opening its doors to Russian citizens comes in a context in which the bloc has just agreed to suspend the visa facilitation agreement with Russia, after the insistence of several states.

Some EU members insisted on suspending this agreement because they consider it unethical that while Moscow launches a war in Ukraine, Russian citizens come to Europe to travel and vacation.

The High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union (EU), Josep Borrell, defended the need to seek a “diplomatic solution” to the war in Ukraine that maintains the “sovereignty and territorial integrity” of the country.

Borrell called on Putin to play a role in moving toward a negotiated solution: “It takes two to tango,” he said.

“Everyone who went to Moscow, to the Kremlin, to talk to Putin, came back with the same answer: ‘I (Putin) have military goals and if I don’t achieve those military goals, I will continue the war.'” “, he stressed.
