London police have revealed that a controlled explosion took place outside Buckingham Palace tonight after a man was arrested on suspicion of gun possession.
Police arrested the man after he approached the gates and threw objects suspected of being shotgun grenades onto the palace grounds.
“Police moved immediately to arrest the man, who was taken into police custody,” Superintendent Joseph McDonald said in a statement.
“There were no reports of shots fired or injuries to police or members of the public,” it said.
Authorities have revealed that officers have remained at the scene and an investigation is ongoing.
The incident took place just days before the coronation ceremony of King Charles III of England, scheduled for Saturday at Westminster Abbey.
