Texas shooting suspect captured after four days on the run from police

A 38-year-old man was arrested this Tuesday after several days on the run from the police after killing five people, including a child, in the state of Texas.

The suspect of Mexican nationality, Francisco Oropeza, would have attacked the neighbors who lived in the house next door after they demanded that he stop firing his AR-15 weapon in the garden of the house, at 11:30 p.m. when he woke up. a baby

Five people between the ages of 9 and 38 died and at least five others were injured. Two children survived. They were found in a room, in shock, under the bodies of two dead women.

The shooting took place last Friday in the small town of Cleveland and the man has been on the run from police ever since.

The chase involved more than 250 agents from various security forces, as well as drones and dogs, including in a forest a few kilometers from the shooting site.

“The suspect is in police custody,” said Sheriff Greg Capers at a press conference on Tuesday night (Wednesday morning in Portugal), quoted by AFP. “He was hiding in a closet in a laundry room.”

The arrest was only possible thanks to an alert call to the FBI, after a US$80,000 reward was offered for information leading to the capture of Francisco Oropeza.

The fatalities are from Honduras, but only one has entered the country illegally, contrary to what Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott said, who was later forced to apologize publicly.

Francisco Oropeza had already been deported four times to Mexico, according to US immigration authorities, the last one in January 2012.
