Zelensky visits Finland to meet with Nordic heads of state

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky traveled to Helsinki on Wednesday, where he will meet the heads of government of the Nordic states to discuss aid to Ukraine.

The meetings take place at the official residence of the President of Finland, Sauli Niinisto.

The Scandinavian countries of Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Iceland have shown support for Kiev since the start of the Russian invasion unleashed by Moscow on February 24, 2022.

Zelensky has scheduled meetings with the Prime Minister of Sweden, Ulf Kristersson, with the Chief Executive of Norway, Jonas Gahr Store, the Chief Executive of the Government of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, and with the Prime Minister of Iceland, Katrin Jakobsdottir.

The Finnish head of state said the summit will discuss Russian aggression against Ukraine and that the “Nordic countries” will continue to support Kiev and the initiatives of the European Union and the Atlantic Alliance.

“There remains an urgent need for military support to ensure that the Ukrainians remain as strong as possible in the fight against Russia,” the Danish prime minister said in a statement.
