More than a dozen explosions recorded in Kiev (with videos)

This Thursday, shortly after 7 p.m. local time (3 p.m. in Lisbon), more than a dozen loud explosions were heard in central Kiev, minutes after the anti-aircraft alert warning Ukrainian citizens of Russian attacks.

“The enemy attacks the capital, antiaircraft works”wrote the Ukrainian government’s Center for Strategic Communication in a note published on Telegram, citing the region’s military administration.

The city of Kiev is attacked almost weekly by Russia with Iranian-made suicide drones, but the attacks usually take place at dawn and not in the afternoon, as happened this Thursday.

Videos circulating on the internet show some drones being shot down by Ukrainian defenses.

These attacks may be related to retaliation by Russian authorities, who accused Kiev of being responsible for the explosion of two drones against the Kremlin, aimed at assassinating Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The military offensive launched by Russia in Ukraine on February 24, 2022 has so far led to the flight of more than 14.6 million people – 6.5 million internally displaced persons and more than 8.1 million to European countries -, according to the latest data from the UN. which classifies this refugee crisis as the worst in Europe since World War II (1939-1945).

At least 18 million Ukrainians need humanitarian aid and 9.3 million need food aid and housing.

The Russian invasion – justified by the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, with the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for Russian security – was condemned by the international community at large, which responded by sending arms to Ukraine and to impose on Russia political and economic sanctions.

The UN presented 8,709 civilian deaths and 14,666 wounded as confirmed since the start of the war, underlining that these numbers are well below the real ones.
